Christian Health Care Sharing – Assurance, not Insurance

Legislation introduced to allow HSAs for ministry members

Sen Cruz and Sen Braun have introduced legislation to make a radical change to the HSA (Health Savings Accounts) to open them up to more than just high deductible policy holders. This is a big deal and we really want this to pass. Members of health care sharing ministries would be allowed to contribute to and use an HSA account, and it increases the contribution limits considerably. This bill still needs to get voted on and passed by both houses of Congress, but I really feel like this is the biggest step forward the HSA topic has taken in a long time. Considering the current political climate and that health care is such a big topic for both parties going into an election year, I feel this has a chance to pass. Better than average anyway. Let’s all pray for a good outcome on this and that we will all soon be able to use an HSA with a lot more flexibility and freedom.

No updates yet that I’ve heard of. Samaritan will definitely let all members know if anything changes, this is something we all want so they are on top of it. Not much happening at the congressional level.

Let’s pray about this one. Perhaps 2025 is the time this will go through?

Hi Mike, there has been no additional word on this. I doubt anything happens with it for a very long time. Congress does not move quickly. 🙁

Is this bill going to be re-introduced? Do we have to wait and see what happens in the mid-term elections?

Any new updates yet since beginning of November? It would be a miracle if we could contribute before year end but one can still hope:) Thanks for any news!

Unfortunately, no. I don’t expect it to be an option until the next Congress comes into session and maybe not even then. We’ll see…

Is there any update on this? It would be nice to have dates with the articles so one can easily tell how old the information is.

Hi Robert. Unfortunately not much has moved forward on this, at least not enough for us to be able to use it. Government is a slow moving machine I suppose. Your comment on article dates is good, the old theme used to have that, but this newer one seems to have stripped it out. I’ll look into a way to fix that, thanks.
